Noted Science Fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has died at age 90. Via Medisbistro

I was a big Sci Fan from age 10 and read many of Clarke’s early but never his most famous: 2001: A Space Odessey, a film for which he received an Oscar along with Stanley Kubrick.

Galley Cat poses the perrennial question about self-publishiing and concludes with:

In other words, yes, technology has made it possible for just about anybody to become a published author—but that’s only the first step in becoming a successful author, and only the people who have the courage and tenacity to see the project through, with or without a big company’s help, will reap the full rewards.

I coach several and one best-selling author and let me tell you …. it’s not the who are hauling bags of cash home. Nor, is it the book store owners.

That being said, I think self-publishing combined with skilled self-promotion ( a rare skill in the community) will put more $$ in writer’s jeans.

the Writer-Entrepreneur.

From the LA Times:

Hollywood is a town awash in hyphenates. TV is loaded with writer-producers. The movie biz is full of writer-directors. There’s even a legion of actor-filmmakers like Clint Eastwood and George Clooney. But as the strike enters its third week, I think the future belongs to a tantalizing new hyphenate: the writer-entrepreneur.
